While I haven’t yet had an opportunity to use MongoDB in any a client project, I’ve begun experimenting with it and its driver for Python, pymongo . One thing that’s very compelling is the raw insert speed you get, without having to go through any bizarre contortions with the API. Using the following very straightforward code, I was able to create several thousand dummy records in memory and insert them into a Mongo collection.

If you are not careful about what you do, then you can easily start method hopping and getting nowhere.

Wow, hats off for this, as simple as it is... there's no way I want a bunch of boilerplate code for profiling.

I was having a hard time justifying find-and-replace on all my DataContext instantiations; might have to see if PostSharp community edition can take care of that too.

You have hit the nail on the head with this one. Recruiters calling up spouting a load of words that they dont understand in the vein hope that they'll say one which you recognise and begin talking about. I wouldnt trust a recruiter as far as i could throw them. I have friends in recruitment and outside of that environment they are lovely people, when they are in work mode though they turn into veritable animals, and will step over people to get their commision and bullsh** their way into oblivion.

We're using a similar combination at my current company (also somewhat of a start-up) and with great success. Before I got here, they had tried using Java, but your thoughts on the Java ecosystem are exactly the reasons why we switched. We are also using Mongo...I'm a huge fan!

And yes, PHP is UGLY imho!!

"Microsoft imposes drastic limitations on its employees ability to.download open source software let alone look at the source"

Where have you heard this? Microsoft itself has a fair amount of open source software and they employ committers to things like jQuery source.

They have announced Ruby as a..language for scripting Silverlight - but that still leaves a lot of..open questions. All the signals I hear tell me.that John Lam the main force behind Iron Ruby is determined to get a.fully compatible implementation. Soon-to-be-ThoughtWorker Ola Bini a JRuby.committer reckons that its almost impossible to figure out how to.implement a Ruby runtime without looking at source code of the MRI - but.Microsoft imposes drastic limitations on its employees ability to.download open source software let alone look at the source.
